The Inauguration

Probably one of the neat things about being an expat is doing/celebrating American things abroad. For some reason it is way cooler, for example, Thanksgiving in London. Or you do things that you would never do at home, like hanging out with Texas fanatics at a BBQ restaurant to watch an internet feed of Texas football game (thanks Oliver).

So this year it was crowding around the big screen at the Hilton Hotel bar to watch the inauguration of Barak Obama. When President Obama addressed the world in his speech, I can say, yes were watching. However, the highlight of the evening was post Obama speech when the older man behind me rose, stood in front of the TV and to initiate an American sports chant . . . “Give me an O” . . . and hit a round of silence as most other internationals had any idea what he about to do. Lucky for him, there were some Americans (me included) in the crowd that led the crowd to the following “O . . . B . . . A . . .…M… . . . A”. Somehow the Americans always stand out.
